NC Mountain State Fair Returns to WNC Ag Center September 9-18 2011

NC Mountain State Fair Returns to Western North Carolina Mountains this fall.

North Carolina Mountain State Fair

North Carolina Mountain State Fair

Each year we enjoy the festivities of an old fashioned state fair that’s great for the whole family. The traditional carnival rides and atmosphere enchant young and old alike. The local artists display their award winning crafts and are available for purchase. The sounds of laughter, the smell of cotton candy, and the glow of neon lights, create priceless memories that will be treasured for a lifetime.

high in the sky on th sky-lift

Relax and see it all.

Travel the midway to experience the challenge of climbing a rock wall, the thrill of coasters and free falls, or enjoy a relaxing ride on a colossal ferriswheel and sky-lift to get a birds-eye view of all the festivities.

Bluegrass perfomance

Bluegrass performers of all ages

Continue your journey to find live performances including concerts and talent stages. Play the “carny” games that make you the hero (or zero) and impress your friends. Win that giant teddy for the love of your life or take home your very own authentic simulated star wars light saber. How can you beat that?

Let me count the ways.

The great pumpkin

A liitle something from the garden

How about a pumpkin bigger than your environmentally friendly car. The farmers bring their greatest creations and to top that off, their wives cook them into award winning dishes. That’s right, Jams, jellies, good ole American Apple Pie, and every other flavor you may fancy. Art exhibits that mystify and inspire. Quilting, photography, oil & water color painting, wood carving, candy making, the list is virtually endless. We all get into the act, local churches, charities, professional services, amateurs and pros alike. You might even corner a local politico and bend their ear if it pleases you.

And that reminds me…
Did I forget the pig races, ya ain’t seen nuttin’ till ya seen a pig race! Sorry I got carried away there but, who could blame me? I’ve seen camel rides, Nascar model race tracks, military helicopters and armored vehicles. You can even drive drunk!!!… Thanks to the Highway Patrol. (it’s simulated of course.)

One of the most enjoyed features is the food. Both mouth-watering and spectacular, row after row of award winning BBQ, fresh seafood, fire roasted corn-on-the-cob, turkey drumsticks as big as your head, ribbon fries,  funnel cakes, ice cream, and cotton candy. The aromas mingle and burst around every turn tempting you to (just this once) forget that pesky diet and indulge. Don’t miss your chance to try the exotic. Ostrich, gator tail? Well if not; you’ll find Greek delicacies, southern comfort foods, spicy Cajun cookin’,  Vermont maple candy, mexican favorites, and my favorite… North Carolina Pork Bar-B-Que wit all da fixins.

Y’all come and have a good time and …
