The arrival of autumn in beautiful downtown Marion, North Carolina is in full celebration with the 30th Annual Mountain Glory Festival.

On October 13th, 2013 with more than 125 artists, crafters, food booths and a variety of entertainment, visitors are sure to experience mountain hospitality in full bloom.  Some notable featured events include – local bluegrass bands playing traditional mountain music and Native American’s performing the haunting melodies of their traditional music.

Lots of entertainment for the whole familyThe Mountain Glory Craft Show gives visitors a peek into local and regional pastimes and rich tradition like quilting and pottery. One of the most popular areas of the festival every year is the “Children’s Arena” that provides hands on activities, face painting, balloon playgrounds, a best dressed pet show and more special entertainment for kids.

This year the Mountain Glory Festival will have multiple stages highlighting the performances of local area talent.

10:30 AM – Best Dressed Pet Contest
An all-time favorite and a delightful part of every Mountain Glory Festival; the Best Dressed Pet Contest - see the creative and innovative ideas of local pet owners as the  “Best Dressed Pet” goes on parade!

11:00 AM – Noon – Skiffle Creek
Local talent Skiffle Creek, is a three-piece band from McDowell County, North Carolina featuring the unique musical stylings of songwriter Freddy Bradburn. Joined by Mark Eckenrod on guitar and banjo, and Todd Buckner playing bass, uke, and melodica, Freddy has been writing and performing original music and (sometimes obscure) covers from folks like James Taylor, John Prine, and Woody Guthrieout for many years. Skiffle Creek has earned the love and respect of their fans and followers throughout the area and add a special flavor to this years festivities. Koodos to Freddy, Mark, and Todd!

Their performance falls somewhere in the vicinity of “Woody Guthrie and Leon Redbone meet the B-52′s and John Denver at a Tom Petty Tribute”, or maybe something completely different depending on which night you see them.

2:30 – His Mercy
His Mercy began in 2010 out of a desire to have a gospel group that would be anointed and ministry minded.  They have a progressive southern gospel sound that is powerful and every time they take the stage.

“His Mercy has had so many amazing opportunities and open doors, and we, as humble as we can, thank God for every single one of them. Our steps are divinely ordered.  God is so very good.”

The group is members: Mitzi Stamey, Trena Dodson Long and RJ Henderson have been singing together since April of 2012.  In the summer of 2012, they released their first CD “Getting Ready” and in June 2013, released their first album, “Worth the Journey”.  The album’s first single “Bound” was released to radio stations nationwide on August 19th with Airplay Radio Promotions and will be charting on Southern Gospel Radio Chart in October.

10:00 AM – Common Ground
“Common Ground” has established themselves as a favorite on the local scene and a great bluegrass group. Common Ground has more than 50 years of combined playing experience and they are the featured house band at the Historic Marion Depot Bluegrass Night every Thursday in downtown Marion, NC.

Band members:  lead guitar – Jeff Etheridge, lead vocals – Mike Ennis, upright bass – Gerald Lavender, banjo – Carson Gibson, and Elton Allison on the dobro.  Be sure to come out and hear great mountain music from this wonderful and talented band.

11:30 AM – Greg Conley
You do not want to miss this powerful performance.  Known for strong vocals, Greg makes chills up and down your spine!  Greg grew up in Marion singing with his family and you want to be there!

12:30 PM -  Addie’s Chapel Gospel Choir
If you want your heart warmed and your spirit lifted, then Addies Chapel is who you want to hear.  Singing together for over 30 years, Addie’s Chapel is a local gospel choir that has been a mainstay at Mountain Glory Festival for many years.  Always a crowd pleaser, many are original members and the wonderful harmony of years practice shines in every song.  They do a variety of gospel music and hymns.  We don’t want to miss this wonderful choir.

1:30 PM – Foot-Heels Stompin’ Premier Clogging Teams

2:00 PM – Bad Habits
Bad Habits is a high energy, heart pounding, smoking hot band from Marion NC playing country, high energy country rock  and good ole southern rock.
Band members are Steve Hitt on some smoking drums; Scott Owens is a fine lead guitarist and strong on vocals;  David McPeters plays a mean bass and mean vocals and Chris Byers  is lead vocalist and adds guitar.
Special for Mountain Glory Festival will be Marion song man Ric Luther adding his vast talent to Bad Habits.  You will enjoy a high energy show that will leave you wanting more BAD HABITS!

Need Directions…

-40/Exit 85/Hwy 221 North to stoplight/intersection of By-Pass Hwy. 221/226 North. Drive through intersection, road changes names to Rutherford Road. Continue driving through combined commercial/residential neighborhood approximately 2 miles. Road “blends” into South Main Street where you will see the festival and parking venues.
